The authors from these two stories are both from the Caribbean island, the author that wrote "Little Cog-burt" is from Dominica, and the author who wrote "Cotton Candy" is from Cuba. Some difference between these stories that I could see is that "Cotton Candy" focuses more so on Lola's love life and freedom, While "Little Cog-burt" is a more so about how people get treated and how Moira treated her family. Author Phyllis Shand Allfrey is best known for her novel "The Orchid House" and also being on the West Indian radio. On the other hand, author Dora Alonso is also a publisher but her first novel "Tierra inerme" got a award and also won numerous literacy awards throughout Latin America. These authors may have some differences but they also have similarities such as the harsh reality of things. Dora Alonso is a author who focuses of the struggle against alienating reality or a corrupt society which is a meaning of harsh reality and also focusing on workers rights. Phyllis Shand Allfrey is know for being the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. For me, what I get out from reading this authors story is labour meaning people working and Social Affairs meaning the society. Another similarity of these two short stories is that both their main characters in their story are women who are both facing some kind of challenge.
