Blog Post #5

Approximately, 1 million U.S citizens have made a visit to Honduras to enjoy a different scenery and enjoy different things. In Honduras, there are many things to do as a tourist such as hiking, site seeing, and even better the food industry. There are many options on this island for a choice of a food such as their national dish. Their dish consists of many different carbs from beans to tortillas. Of course, if the national dish is something you do not prefer then you still have other options like rice and tortillas, or a beef tortilla. The food industry is always a great way to get to know the country or island that you are visiting besides the music or dancing.

Honduras is a beautiful place to be and a beautiful place to visit. Honduras has 3 major islands Roatan, Utila, and Guanaja these islands are considered to be the largest islands of just many. I find many things interesting about Honduras such as their music, dance, and their food. The topic I have chosen for my research is food, why? Because they have such a wide food industry and almost everything they have is grown and handpicked by themselves. The national dish for Honduras is called Plato Tipico which is also known as a mountain of food. This dish involves beef, plantains, beans, marinated cabbage, fresh cream, and tortillas. Their national dish compared to ours is like comparing a Lamborghini to a Honda simply because the United States uses a hamburger as their national dish. For this research, I plan to dig deeper in order to find out why this is their national dish and also how food became such a big success for these islands.

The authors from these two stories are both from the Caribbean island, the author that wrote "Little Cog-burt" is from Dominica, and the author who wrote "Cotton Candy" is from Cuba. Some difference between these stories that I could see is that "Cotton Candy" focuses more so on Lola's love life and freedom, While "Little Cog-burt" is a more so about how people get treated and how Moira treated her family. Author Phyllis Shand Allfrey is best known for her novel "The Orchid House" and also being on the West Indian radio. On the other hand, author Dora Alonso is also a publisher but her first novel "Tierra inerme" got a award and also won numerous literacy awards throughout Latin America. These authors may have some differences but they also have similarities such as the harsh reality of things. Dora Alonso is a author who focuses of the struggle against alienating reality or a corrupt society which is a meaning of harsh reality and also focusing on workers rights. Phyllis Shand Allfrey is know for being the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. For me, what I get out from reading this authors story is labour meaning people working and Social Affairs meaning the society. Another similarity of these two short stories is that both their main characters in their story are women who are both facing some kind of challenge.

The story "Tétiyette and the Devil" goes well with how people choose to date each other, or in this case marry them. In the story, the daughter was more worried about what the person looked like outside than they did inside. The young girl also did not want to listen to the warning signs her mother was trying to give her to prove that he was the devil himself. Instead of paying attention to all the signs, she had to suffer her own outcome and learn her own lesson. At the end of the story no one saved her accept her little brother because her parent could only say "they told her so". I feel like this story goes so well with today's society because this is exactly how it is in the real world. I believe this story is literary text in order to give the readers a message in a since that you should not trust someone right off the bat and that it has to be built, and also not everything is off of looks. The audience is everyone who reads this story and not only that, but also those who can relate to it. The quote, "Tétiyette, no man can be that beautiful!" is very accurate in my eyes because what this means to me is that no man is perfect and that they all have some type of flaw and vise verse. Pathos takes place well in this story because I believe there are many emotions built up as the author tells the story. The emotions range from the young girl becoming extremely happy to finding "the one" to her becoming very helpless. The story really does not have a argument side to it, personally I thought it had more so reasoning behind it in terms of giving the audience reasoning as to why she picked the devil, why she covered up that he has oozed out black instead of blood, and why he ate her. The narrator did a great job at giving the audience a imagine of the story to put in their heads as they read it.

Belize and Bay islands; Blog #1

The Belize and Bay islands are off the Coast of Honduras, these beautiful islands consist of a lot such as beauty as well as a lot of history, and also located on the Caribbean Sea. The Bay islands consist of eight islands as well as 53 small cays. Three of the largest islands of the Bay islands are Utila, Roatán, and Guanaja. A little history behind these islands is that the name "Bay islands" is for the islands Roatán, Guanaja, Barbareta, Helena, Morat, and Utila. This has all been since 1850, and also since their colony of the British Crown as their organization.
